Four steps from listing to clarity.
eSurveyor is built around a simple idea: you should walk into every broker conversation knowing more than you did when you found the listing. Here’s how we get you there.
Import the listing
Paste the listing text from YachtWorld, Boats.com, Yachtr, or any broker site — or save the listing as a PDF and drop the file in. (We don’t crawl URLs; the paste/PDF flow gives us the broker’s full sidebar info that reader-mode extractors tend to drop.)
eSurveyor extracts:
- Make, model, year, length
- Engine type, hours, age of major systems
- Listed equipment and electronics
- Asking price
- Tanks, heads, cabins (when present in the listing)
You’ll see your imported listing on your dashboard within a few seconds. You can also create a listing manually if the broker hasn’t published yet.
Define your dream boat
Before we analyze anything, we need to know what you’re actually trying to do with the boat. Coastal weekending and a Pacific crossing want different vessels.
You’ll fill out your buyer profile, covering:
- Primary use — daysailing, weekending, coastal cruising, bluewater, liveaboard, charter
- Hull and rig preferences — monohull, cat, tri; sloop, ketch, motoryacht, trawler, etc.
- Length, age, and price ranges — set as spans, not single numbers
- Condition tier — turn-key, good, fair, project-boat
- Must-haves— features you absolutely won’t compromise on
- Preferred makes/models— curated list, with “other” free-text supported
Save as many profiles as you want — different profiles for the bluewater dream and the weekend toy. Switch between them at any time, or compare a single prospect against multiple profiles.
Run the deeper analysis on your AI of choice
Most of the analysis happens automatically the moment you import. The places where you bring your own AI are the open-ended ones:
- Marketability second opinion— copy a prompt that captures your full profile, paste the AI’s response back, and we’ll overlay it on top of our heuristic score.
- Research prompts for missing fields — when a listing is missing something material, eSurveyor builds a research prompt you can run on the AI of your choice and paste the answers back.
Why this approach?
- You see everything. No black-box reasoning. Every input and every output is yours.
- Zero AI costs to youfor the deep research. You’re already paying for ChatGPT or Claude, or using a free tier.
- You pick the model.AI models change every few months. You shouldn’t be locked into ours.
Get your buyer's brief
As you import listings and answer the prompts, eSurveyor builds a living dashboard for each prospect:
Buyer-fit score
How well this boat matches your stated profile, with specific trade-offs spelled out. Hard misses (must-haves the boat doesn’t satisfy) are flagged separately so a single deal-breaker doesn’t hide behind a high overall score.
Component Health Index
A 0–100% rollup of remaining useful life on the major systems — engine, standing rigging, sails, batteries, fuel tank, bottom paint — with a confidence band based on how much data the listing actually provided.
Marketability score
How rare or common your profile is on the used market. Bands: common / available / rare / edge-case. Optional AI second opinion via the prompt workflow.
Total cost of ownership
Acquisition (one-time) and annual operating, line by line: insurance, slip, haul-out, maintenance pct of value, fuel, electronics refresh. Quick offer chips (-5%, -10%, -15%, -20%) with a low-ball warning at 20% off explaining why brokers stop returning calls.
Broker question pack
A tailored list of questions generated from the listing’s gaps and condition signals. Copy-and-paste, or send a magic link that lets the broker answer directly in-app — no password needed.
Deal pipeline + activity
Move every prospect through stages (researching, contacted, viewing, offer, survey, closed, dropped) with a per-boat activity log for calls, emails, and notes.
Compare view
Side-by-side of up to 4 prospects with per-row winners highlighted, so you can see past staging and broker prose.
Suggestions
When your dream-boat profile is too narrow to hit anything, eSurveyor suggests specific widenings (“drop the maker filter — adds 38 candidates”).
What eSurveyor is not
- We’re not a survey. A licensed marine surveyor (SAMS or NAMS accredited) is non-negotiable before you close. We help you decide which boats earn the survey fee.
- We’re not a replacement for a sea trial. No analysis tells you how a boat actually feels under sail.
- We’re not your broker. A good broker is worth their commission. eSurveyor makes you a sharper buyer, which makes the broker relationship more productive.
- We’re not infallible. AI gets things wrong. Listings are sometimes inaccurate. Our analysis is a starting point for your judgment, not a substitute for it.
